Place Based Learning in Burnaby

Today Mrs. Pitt went exploring her ‘work neighbourhood’ for her afternoon lunch break.  I walked North from the school and back for almost 3 km.  It took me 35 mins to go to Deer Lake and back.  The Burnaby Village Museum has an Indigenous History in Burnaby resource guide that informs people about the history of the land we teach, learn and live on.  Did you know that not too long ago in this “Central Valley area, hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ and Sḵwxwú7mesh ancestors traditionally gathered crops like cranberries, crabapple, labrador tea, cattail, and wapato.”  What I noticed on my walk is the many stairs that take you down to the lake.  Can you guess how many stairs?  Perhaps you can take the same walk and count them!
